Global IC design revenue rankings

Global IC design revenue rankings for the first quarter of 2019 (unit:in millions of US dollars)

In 2019, the global semiconductor industry entered a bear market cycle. Whether it is foundry or memory chips, the revenue of manufacturers in the industry is declining. Among the top 5 companies, except for MediaTek's slight increase of 1%, the other four companies all declined, and NVIDIA fell 24.4%.

Among the 10 companies, the Novatek grew by 35.8% year-on-year, followed by Xilinx, with an annual growth rate of 29.8%; the Realtek grew by 14.9%, the annual growth rate was the third; the Marvell growth was 13.4%, and the annual growth rate was the fourth.

Yao Jiayang, a senior analyst, pointed out that although the world's major IC design companies have produced good transcripts last year, the impact of the Sino-US trade war and the slowdown in the mainland market have made the global market atmosphere quite conservative this year. The first quarter performance was not as good as expected.

NVIDIA has the most recession, because the game graphics card inventory has not yet fully degraded, the first quarter revenue fell sharply by 40.9%. The other main growth data center, due to the slowdown in the number of hyperscale data centers and enterprises purchasing GPUs, has shown its first recession in the past three years. It is expected that the second quarter revenue will continue to decline, with an annual decline of about 20%.

Yao Jiayang analyzed that Broadcom was affected by Huawei's ban. The semiconductor division's first-quarter revenue fell 10.5% from the same period last year, but it is expected to benefit the overall revenue after the completion of the acquisition of CA Technologies. In the second quarter, the trade war has become more and more fierce. He expects Broadcom's performance to continue to decline, with a year-on-year decrease of 7%.

Qualcomm's demand for smartphones declined significantly, resulting in a 17.1% decline in handset chip shipments in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year. In contrast, MediaTek has been importing OPPO, Xiaomi and other customers since last year, and has gained more in the smart home market. The first quarter revenue has grown smoothly. Looking forward to the second quarter, Yao Jiayang estimates that the performance will decline slightly by 1.5% under the influence of the US dollar exchange rate, but it is expected to grow by about 2% in New Taiwan dollars.

As for the two big Taiwanese companies, Novatek and Realtek, although the growth momentum of global smartphones is limited, TDDI and AMOLED panels have become the new darlings of the mobile phone market. Under the gradual increase of penetration rate, the Novatek has taken advantage of the market to make the first The performance of the first quarter was quite good, and the revenue ranking also surpassed Realtek, ranking 8th in the world.

Realtek benefited from the network and display market, coupled with the market demand for true wireless Bluetooth headset (TWS), which made the first quarter revenue maintain growth performance.
