Infineon and IDEX Biometrics launch biometric smart card platform

Excellent performance, scalability, and cost-effective manufacturability
Recently, a research report published by ABI Research* predicts that under optimistic conditions, the global biometric payment card market will reach 353 million in 2025. In order to help payment card manufacturers meet the growing emerging markets, Infineon Technologies Co., Ltd. (FSE: IFX/OTCQX: IFNNY), a global leader in smart card payment solutions, has joined hands with IDEX Biometrics, a leading provider of advanced fingerprint recognition and verification solutions. ASA (OSE: IDEX/NASDAQ: IDBA), launched a new generation of biometric smart card architecture reference design.
This reference design uses the new Infineon SLC38BML800 safety controller with a general-purpose input and output (GPIO) interface and IDEX Biometrics' latest generation TrustedBio™ solution to achieve low latency, high accuracy, and energy-saving Fingerprint verification. The integration of fingerprint sensors, security components, power management and communication functions can reduce the complexity of card manufacturing, thereby shortening time to market and reducing costs.

Tolgahan Yildiz, Head of Infineon’s Payment and Ticketing Solutions Product Line, said: “This new design brings significant improvements at the card system level and can be easily integrated into the existing thermal lamination card process. Therefore, this architecture can be Improve card performance while reducing manufacturing complexity. The additional interfaces and energy efficiency provided by our security controllers help to realize the industrialization of high-performance biometric smart cards. This fingerprint solution is what Infineon is committed to Another proof of innovation to achieve biometric smart cards that are easy to use, easy to integrate, highly accurate, and cost-effective."
IDEX Biometrics CEO Vince Graziani said: "Payment card issuers and users have already had a strong demand for card-based fingerprint verification, but so far, the relatively high manufacturing cost of biometric smart cards has hindered the popularization of the mass market. By using the TrustedBio fingerprint sensor, IDEX Biometrics integrates a patented and highly differentiated polymer sensor into a single device, providing exclusive image capture, processing and matching functions, and power management functions. Currently only this biometric is available on the market The solution can achieve such a high level of integration."
TrustedBio can provide payment applications with fingerprint images with high-precision verification results (false rejection rate (FRR)/false acceptance rate (FAR) and counterfeit attack detection (PAD) performance). With the help of the performance of the SLC38BML800 controller, the biometric verification transaction can be completed in less than 500 milliseconds, the market-leading ultra-fast speed. SLC38BML800 has an internal clock frequency of up to 100MHz, which not only supports biometric fingerprint card applications, but is also very suitable for payment, ID card photos, and logical and physical access. Customers using this reference design can easily cope with the above and other authentication applications, and accelerate the time to market.
