Korea Semiconductor is developing its own fluorine polyimide material

Suelte en : 9 sept. 2019

Recently, Samsung folding screen mobile phone Galaxy Fold recently unveiled at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Berlin, Germany, dispelling the industry's concerns about Japan and South Korea's trade semiconductor materials restrictions on Samsung folding screen.

After the trade war between Japan and South Korea began, Japan began to regulate three raw materials such as fluorinated polyimides, photoresists and hydrogen fluoride exported to South Korea on July 4, which are used for the manufacture of semiconductors and OLED panels. An important and indispensable raw material.

It has been reported that South Korea has purchased anhydrous hydrofluoric acid from China to produce high-purity hydrogen fluoride test products, which are used in D-RAM and NAND flash semiconductor processes, and are planned to be mass-produced immediately after the expansion of the plant. In addition, Samsung and SK Hynix also procured other related raw materials from Singapore, and the estimated stocks can be supported by the end of the year.

If South Korea succeeds in finding a supply pipeline for other raw materials and can mass produce it by itself, it can no longer rely on raw materials supplied by Japan, which will adversely affect the Japanese semiconductor materials market.

Samsung announced on September 3 that "it has recently begun to invest in domestic hydrogen fluoride in some semiconductor processes."

According to the report, Samsung has used hydrogen fluoride manufactured by South Korea's SoulBrain and ENF Technology for some semiconductor processes since mid-August. The two companies originally imported high-purity hydrogen fluoride from Japan's Morita Chemical Industry and Stella Chemifa, and after refining, they shipped it to Samsung. This time, the use of Chinese-made anhydrous hydrofluoric acid successfully produced hydrogen fluoride with a purity of 99.999% Liquid product.

High-purity hydrogen fluoride with a purity of 99.999% or more is currently controlled by Morita Chemical Industry, Stella Chemifa and other Japanese plants with a market share of 70%.

Yonhap News Agency reported on the 3rd that South Korean semiconductor manufacturer SK Hynix is testing domestic hydrogen fluoride, and panel maker LG Display (LGD) has begun to use domestic hydrogen fluoride, and Samsung Display is also expected to complete the test of substitutes in the near future.

Co-Communication, Yonhap News Agency reported on August 28 that the South Korean government and the ruling party, the Common Democratic Party and the Qingwatai (Presidential Office) held a meeting on the inspection and countermeasures of the Japan Export Control Status on the 28th, and decided within three years from 2020 (2020- 2022) Under the budget of 5 trillion won, and promote the localization of materials/parts/manufacturing equipment, the goal is to get rid of materials and parts, most of which depend on the industrial structure imported from Japan. To this end, LG and Samsung are currently working on the development of fluoropolyimide materials.
